This is exactly the kind of advice I was after. Thank you!!! So they are pretty reliable and accurate then if a dog gets lost in the woods? I'm normally a pretty cheap person but this is one of the few things I actually don't mind splurging on as long as it's reliable and accurate. That's the most important thing I am after. Are they fairly self explanatory to use? I'll only need it for one dog.

Yes. It's awesome. Depending on which system you get and how you put it together. My brother is the kind of guy who researches everything, especially for his kids or dogs. He said these cost a lot more, but he talked to the manufacturer a number of times, etc.

I think it was three summers ago when he first started using them with his dogs (he uses them also at his house in Ohio with the GPS fence mapping). Normally if he and his family were out somewhere and my husband and I were with dogs (not ours) I would have taken them out on a leash. But these worked really, really great.

We have a big family that comes together on acres in the woods/lakes and there are always a lot of people coming in and out and dogs going in and out and we can just look at the walkie and know where his dogs are through the mapping.

I didn't know anything about the system and I was able to use it in about 5 mins. Even the kids can use it.
