Just joshing. Kiddo and I recently watched something about those wars and how Texas was wrested from Mexico (along with my state so I ain't got much to talk about here...)

 

Yeah there was definitely some fuckery going on. Same thing that was done to the Native Americans to make the U.S. History is brutal and depressing sometimes.

Yep. My supposed Cherokee ancestors agree.

(Family lore and pictures show that we're Cherokee, and my grandpa, who was supposedly 50% Cherokee said we are...but I want 23andMe to tell me if I got any Native American blood in me at all before I say that with confidence...since my ancestors were originally from Arkansas and Tennessee then moved to Oklahoma and are scattered about and tales grow tall over time...)

Interesting - my husbands family is also Cherokee. They were originally from Tennessee - some stayed back and hid in the hills and others ended up being killed on the Trail of Tears or moved to Oklahoma because of resettlement.

As a heads up 23andMe and ancestry don't always do the best with the Native American DNA - it's getting better but the percentages are low because there is less testing among the tribes.

A Cherokee shaman was part of our wedding ceremony twenty years ago. He grew up in Oklahoma but taught my husband quite a bit of Cherokee and ceremony as it is one of the few tribes that actually had a written language and the ceremonies were handed down from his grandmother.
