I did. But I have bookcases in the hallway where the water got to so I had to unload all of those and move them to get it all out. That was a pain in the ass! Plus rugs.

I've flooded the kitchen before due to the washer issue (and once, the drainline cracked and I didn't know it until water came out) so I now have a water alarm in my laundry room in front of the washer. This time there wasn't enough water to make it that far before we caught it.

I also have a water alarm under my bathroom sink in case of leaks.

Also water lines to fridge and freezers are a hazard.

Friend of mine went to Disney World for two weeks. They got home and the ceiling above their (finished) basement had caved in, the kitchen was flooded, cabinets soaked...all because the water line to the fridge got a crack in it when they left and it leaked the whole time they were gone. It was a nightmare. She didn't have a kitchen for about 8 months while it went through insurance and got fixed.

I now turn off that line when I leave for an extended time!

 

is it true that if you leave your heat on 68 degrees or above and also leave the sinks dripping then that doesn't happen? that's what the landlord says but idk. they also say leave open all the cabinet doors in the kitchen and bathroom.

 

What is a water alarm? How come I've never heard of this?

Modern appliances don't have the same problem as older ones with water lines because they use copper that doesn't crack or they don't make it to the part that can freeze. Older appliances are really just a disaster waiting to happen.
