Timers, damned timers. Lol

If researchers want us to take time and think carefully about what we write, why the rush? They don't need a dozen written questions answered within the next 10 minutes. These ain't school exams. A lot of these studies go on for days. Why rush the participants with a strictly short timer? Apparently some of these researchers only want to reward participants who think and write quickly. Slow-pokes get timed out if they pause to think for too long.

 

The short-timers paradigm should end. It is a common practice without reasonable justification. Where does platform documentation recommend to "Set your timers as short as reasonably practical, to accommodate fast participants and screen out the slow-pokes"? Presumably nowhere does the platform documentation recommend that. What would be the harm in allowing more time for the slow-pokes? Do researchers really think slow writers tend to produce lower-quality responses than fast writers? I'd like to see whatever research data would support that.

Another interesting and very detailed study ... with a short timer. Again, there's no good reason for it. The researcher will see a bunch of returns from timed-out slow-pokes, myself being one of them. For some reason the researcher only wants speedy participants.
