I did hear from a local university today; I had helped them set up on mturk a while back. They had tried to post some surveys from their requester account and found that they couldn't, so I let them know what was going on and all. We did talk about Connect (they haven't tried them yet but didn't like what they had heard from other unis/colleges) and Prolific (they have used them but weren't happy with both Pro and the work done), so they're not sure what they're going to do. He did say he'd call Amz directly to try to fix things for this last month and he said he'd let other unis/colleges know about the shutdown. He's def not happy about it.

 

Any chance you could elaborate on the Connect / Prolific problems they had? Find it odd they're "hearing things" when 99% of academic stuff went to those two places but I guess imperfect would still be better than "abandoned husk of a dead body" lol

I hadn't looked at either in ages and was very surprised to see their fees have grown to 2x MTurks.. they used to just price right at what MTurk was charging

 

I saw a few comments on reddit that csats has had tasks on connect long before mturk even put the banner up

I went to go try and search reddit to find it so I didn't look crazy but turns out I can't get into my turkerhub account there anymore well.. thats a plus side of mturk shutting down i guess don't have to worry about hacking 2fa on reddit i guess

 

I think the people at prolific are overworked/overwhelmed. Lots of communication breakdown.

 

They didn't mention what they had heard about Connect.

With Prolific, they had trouble setting things up and didn't hear back for a few weeks, and when they did put up work they said that they did get some good work but they had trouble with workers submitting sloppy work, and they also ended up with two workers giving identical answers, even for written answers, and that they had trouble figuring out how to deal with that.

 

Yea I can't find it in any of the threads in my browser history so apparently I am just hallucinating more than @skittles image generator.. glitch in the matrix

 

STR11223344 wrote me back and asked me where he should go, but I have no idea what to say because Prolific/Connect aren't really set up for that kind of batch work right?
