I call them "account blocks" because that's what the req does - blocks your account.

Qual blocks = qualifications that disqualify you for work

YMMV, using the above has been the only way for me to get away from the people who can't miss the opportunity for an argument, it also makes it more clear to requesters IME since "qual" is a term they're used to and "account block" matches the wording around the req dashboard a bit better. "Worker blocks" would match the dashboard term better but be super weird sounding either way, its clearer to them than "hard & soft" which.. yeah you get what you get there

 

you are right, but in the past people called it both ways for the same thing. it was known as a "soft block" if you didn't get an mturk shame email, and "hard block" if you did, the difference between whether it was a demerit on your account or not, even though it was the same thing. of course language evolves over time, and that's awesome, but it gets confusing in the middle of the process.

it's easiest to just remove the word "block" from all other circumstances besides the actual, legitimate block which tells amazon "yo this person sucks, fire them." unless, like you said, everyone mturk-wide can agree on a universal definition for qualblock/req ban/whatever. the word "block" will always be "crap your pants and cross your fingers that you don't lose your account."

I'm just guestimating, the way I know for sure is past requesters who I tried to work for again, and got the block shit.

it's probably only like 6-7 that I've come across like that, but I've honestly lost count and don't care

Thanks, hopefully, I never have to mention a block in the forum again. And I think it only super important in the sense that moving forward a requester may have behavior similar to Noah but not be a regular that we are familiar with and if we are reviewing that requester etc...it is a distinction that would be important. I have no issue with a requester issuing me a qual which prevents me from performing future hits, this is more than acceptable to me. The block from all work is worrisome.
I have no idea how this decision was made, his bot could have said look, she has DC'd x times across x hits and it was automatic, IDK. either way, I wanted to warn people that I had the serious block, with no real understanding of why. Other than tons of DC's which I have SS's for that show I waited until the timer ran out and did not DC on my end, I know my work was quality per his emails and bonuses above the norm. This said, it evolved to a huge debate over the semantics. And I appreciate your input. I'll never need to speak of him again because I blocked him.
