My hair was marcia brady straight as a kid. I posted pics here once showing how straight it was when I was about 19 years old, then what it looked like less than a decade later. The curls showed up in my 20s in a big way. Not sure why.

Both of my kids got super straight hair, too.

My non biological daughter got my curly hair though. We aren't sure why, we're blaming epigenetics. (Seriously, she has my hair. It's freaky.)

 

I'm on the brink of going "Full Stallman" when it comes to software...there are *very* few non-FLOSS aspects to any of my machines

 

It was also always my fault that she couldn't do anything with it because I was tenderheaded and always cried when it came time to actually do my hair because that shit hurts. So yeah, no winning that one for little kid me.

I always looked full on adopted. My sister took after my dad's side of the family, with pin straight hair, same body type, same facial features, same height. And then there was me...it was so bad that even when I hospitalized, they would ask if I was adopted, cause I look nothing like them and have opposing health issues. My hair has changed a little bit each time it fell out in the past, curls grew back in in different patterns. Mine is more loose now than it was 10 years ago. I don't mind, cause it's easier to manage. My mom is ashamed of her curls and will refuse to do anything but straighten it. :/ Of course, when I finally met more of my mom's bio family, it was like looking in a mirror finally.

 

I was so tenderheaded too. It took about an hour each day for my mom to comb my hair out. I cried and whined the whole time. When I was in third grade it was down to my butt and she had it cut into a chin length bob. So traumatic then but now I keep it in a pixie cut because I can't stand having tangled hair.
