It pains me to validate @dan but this is true. The main purpose of cat toys is to make squeaky noises when you step on them in the middle of the night. Our cats are just as happy with scraps of paper which we crumple up and throw for them to chase after. Or various crafting materials that my wife forgets to put away and then end up becoming new cat toys.

Also, water bowls. According to my observation they must say "MEOW" or have a picture of a cat on it, or they won't know it's for them..

 

oh yeah @ChrisTurk you can get cheap cat fountains from amazon, and they're badass. Makes me jealous of my cats.

They got filters built in and stuff

 

but cat fountains are neato and can be decorative

I have a gumball machine at home, and many evenings I'll chew some gumballs as a dessert. I just scoop them out of the machine and put a handfull of them on the end table next to where I sit. Lucy always knows when I've done this, will appear from nowhere when my back is turned and then shoot them across the room like she's shooting for a hockey goal.
