Santa always put books and games under the tree for the family now that the kids are grown it is usually just something for family game night or puzzles. Also ever other year Santa leaves new pajamas for everyone

I never did Santa with my kids. I mean, I have no problem with people that do and my family does it with their kids. I also made sure that my kids knew not to ever tell others that he wasn't real. That would have been awful. I still made them sit through santa photos though :emoji_joy:

I stopped believing In Santa when I was 8. I was a very observant child and a few days before Christmas we were visiting my grandmother when we saw on the news that our house was on fire. Come Christmas morning Santa brought me a doll that smelled heavily of smoke (apparently it had been among the salvaged items)

We kinda do the same thing? She has a budget, and we tell her to make this huge list of what she wants. Then we tell her she won't get it all, but mom and dad and santa will be choosing from this list. So it depends on what she puts on the list. She's so stinking grateful it's super easy. this year she wanted a bike, a football, a new bed for the puppy, an ugly christmas sweater for mom and dad, candy for mom and dad, and a paint set... She's the only kiddo we have to buy for, so the budget is a little bigger, but not by much.

*we don't tell her the budget, just to make her list. That might have been confusing lol*

Little kids delight way too much in being "smarter" than everyone else, so I'm grateful that you tried to keep them from being That One ash hole Kid Who Ruins Everything. Empathy is so hard for children.

It is hard. My niece was talking about what she got from santa one year and RJ just looked at me, turned around to her and said "you musta been real good" :emoji_joy: I'll never forget that, it sounded so fake...but he didn't spill the beans.

When I buy gifts, I try to focus on things that'll help them grow their silly little brains, while still not being too obviously an "edutainment" toy. Things like paint or play doh or a "real" bow and arrow because I'm not really that big a fan of mindless plastic toys. Though one of them did get a fire truck as big as he is because fire trucks are cool, dude. Also, everyone gets books, except my dad because he doesn't read and he's hard to shop for anyway.

Like I've had to prod my kiddo to make multiple Santa lists so she would have something under the tree. We finally gave up and Hubby is just going to get her stuff.
I have always done the same, plus the non learning ones are normally freakin LOUDDDDDDDDDDD. Her bike was to small for her by quite a bit, and the one we got her will last her for YEARS if not until she's an adult. She gets our money's worth out of it, so that was a legit spend there. She's a crafty little thing, so she always gets a lot of arts and crafts things. We have SO MANY BOOKS that it's to the point that I ask people to get a book credit/gift card/something along those lines to be sure we don't already have what they give. I've got about 800 ish books hanging around the house, so it's a legit concern. lol
