I had the same thing happen to me a month ago and I'm still annoyed by it.

I still do side work on Prolific, but the people who run it have no clue why they'll never directly challenge mturk despite the fact they seem to think that they are competition?

Fair point. I guess if you pretend that you're competition, it doesn't necessarily matter that you aren't.

 

The fact that they're "competing" with and standing up to big bad evil Amazon is just more brownie points in terms of that, as well.

 

Tbf, they were doing $500,000/mo in transactions before they got handed $1,200,000 so.. they're not exactly doing poorly for themselves.

Academics don't really understand these people aren't just their colleagues from across the pond and are just marketing to them.. mostly just completely oblivious to common sense/reality.
