    I'll be completely honest and I obviously don't know everything that goes into this...but

    Seems to me if someone wanted to legally sell a kidney there should be a procedure for it like tests to make sure you are healthy etc. Plenty of people would sell one for a few grand and think of the people it would save!

    Not that I would do it...until I wanted a new PC or something and then it's gonna be chopshop city for me.

    But then people who donate out of altruism or through exchanges - will then be like "well I should probably be getting paid for this instead" - then it becomes a situation where the people who can afford kidneys will get these kidneys that would otherwise have been available to non-rich through altruism or exchanges.

    fun fact: if you donate a kidney, you get extra points in the system if you ever go into failure into the future, which bumps you up the list if you ever need one yourself.

    I have an angry left kidney. It wants to skip work a lot.

    I just looked this up. Admittedly this is just from a few surface articles, but from what it looks like the research suggests that a lot of people CURRENTLY willing to donate say they would change their mind if the saw the kidney market pop up for moral reasons wheras a smaller number of people say they would consider selling for a high price.

    So if both of those are true we would actually have less kidneys and higher costs to those who need them.

    AGAIN, this is based off just like the first three articles I found on the matter.
