I never left her outside overnight (well, on purpose). I do recall one time I got up in the morning and wondered where she was and realized...she never barked to be let back in after she was let out before bed, and we totally forgot she was out there. Whoops! I felt so crappy. She would often sleep with me but sometimes with Kiddo and sometimes in her crate so...it wasn't suspicious that she wasn't in my bed.

Skeeter loves sleeping outside a lot, and he had a tiny bladder and always has to pee in the middle of the night, so I let him if he feels like it...but we've always had nice setups for them outside (doggy door into the laundry room in GA, screened in porch we turned into a big ol' dog clubhouse with little heaters and everything in SC, doggy door from the backyard to the garage here and garage has a doggy door to the laundry room where I have another doggy bed for him). He also stands next to the sliding door next to my bed and smacks it if he changes his mind

I wake up if I hear the sound of his nails clicking on the floor, I cannot sleep thru it! He's too shy to literally ASK to go outside to pee, so he will stand silently next to you and breathe for a minute...and then panic if you don't magically wake up. I always wake up now

 

It's freaking cold outside.

Dess never asked to go outside and pee. She would sit down and stare at you. You had to feel the weight of her stare to know she needed out.

Which made zero sense as she could bark like a crazy, deranged dog with rabies when she wanted back INSIDE.

Kiddo and I used to say to whoever was standing, "She's staring!" which means "You open the door and let her out as you stood up first."

 

Realized I never posted this cause I was deathly ill last week and didn't turn on my computer. BIG MOMENT! Coug came and laid down with me when I was sick...he must have been worried hehe. I tried to act as casual as possible, so he wouldn't run off and hide under the bed for the next day I remember when I used to have to slide his food bowl under the bed, cause he was too spooked to ever come out in the open.
