I mean, on the one hand, contacting the researcher's university's ethics board over a $2.50 dispute seems silly, but on the other hand providing a false rejection to save yourself $2.50 for 35 minutes of intense suffering is so egregious that there doesn't seem to be a reasonable upper limit to the consequences a researcher should suffer.
