Right, you can, but I have always heard the storage is prohibitively expensive. That said, my knowledge is primarily on the wholesale electric side (i.e. the really big wind turbines, methane plants, nuclear, etc.), so I might be off on the retail side.

Plugging in moderately big plants (e.g. for a university or a large community) presents an interesting conundrum for whoever is fulfilling the role of reliability coordinator for your part of the grid (typically the grid operator) because behind-the-meter stuff is an unknown and somewhat unmeasurable quantity, but at the individual household level it's a rounding error. It has really made its mark over the last few years with household solar getting more popular and then some extreme events (polar vortex) hitting.

Yet another example of why listening to random cats on the internet doesn't always work out.

 

I remember playing a demo for it and thought it was cool but never got around to it. And forgot it existed until you mentioned it.

P.S. I'm also intrigued by this example of the guy who had a couple of wind turbines. Again, I mostly know about this on the grid level, and at that level the big turbines need high wind speeds that don't typically present at a house due to topography, but now I'm going to have to take a look at the personal ones to see what they're doing.

 

I think I paid 30 for it on sale, it's a solid game just really really strange, certainly different.

 

He lives out in the middle of BFE with farmland so it made sense for him.
