if anyone is working on the pulsar's, what if there is a text description of the background, but the description fits the background for both the reference image and the captioned image? It should be a caption error, but iirc some of the answers they show, don't count backgrounds not changing but being described anyway as an error.

I emailed them about an hour ago but they haven't responded yet. also, does anyone know how long they take to respond to emailed questions?

I've emailed him before and got an answer within a few hours. I'd love to know the answer to this when you receive one. But from what I understand it's incorrect character description if the reference features are mentioned in the description. So if that text background you mentioned is actually it's own character reference image, or part of a character reference image, then you can't mention it in the description since it's the same. But usually the character reference images are the person or item or whatever, and not the background. You have to look closely at what the bounding box is touching. So the background almost always needs to be described, from the HITs that I've done anyways. I've never seen one that has a background as a reference image or included in the character image.

 

the background isn't a character in the ones I'm referring to. they're taking too long to get back to me either way, because by now I'm starting to forget the other instructions.

 

Yeah if the background isn't a character then it's not an error to describe it. the important parts of the background/scene/setting of the image need to be included the text description.

Yes that's correct, I think. Anything that is relevant to the overall image that is not a character reference needs to be described. From the instructions/example with the picture of the two cartoon girls :

So never mention the character references if they are the same, and do mention the important elements of the image, but minor details like a small necklace can be ignored.
