Okay, got it. Here we go.

Have you ever noticed how traditional depictions of aliens show them as being very tall and thin, with smooth skin and big dark eyes? Here’s why.

The simplest possible way to make a nuclear bomb (think a very small one) is with a large quantity of uranium that can easily reach critical mass. And the easiest way to get to that is to make a globe that goes super critical, but take a plug out of it to reduce it to sub critical, then shoot that plug into the resulting hole. On the end of the plug and at the bottom of the hole, get, oh, a mixture of polonium and beryllium or lithium, something that’ll combine to create a blizzard of neutrons. This is called your initiator.

Bur Sir Kiwi, I hear you ask, whither the aliens? Here we go.

To go super critical, the mass of uranium must be quite pure. This involves lots of centrifuges spinning around to separate the fissionable U-235 (which naturally occurs at 0.7%) from the bulk U-238. Note these spinning centrifuges resemble, yes, alien spacecraft.

Over the course of many years, in fact, these ancient aliens have experimented with different ways of traversing the remarkable distances involved in crossing the universe. How could they do this reliably? Why, by invoking the famed twin paradox, of course. The aliens sent off many craft, and in a startling coincidence they chose to use cats as their test subjects. The ships would zoom off, and return, and the twin cats would age at different rates depending on how fast the ships went.

Of course, this took some considerable length of time, and some of those cats grew quite old and lost their fur due to the rigors of space travel. This is where we get the smooth skin stereotype of an alien.

The aliens also discovered that the rapid spinning of their ships had the side effect of increasing height due to the centripetal force exerted over many years of travel. Aliens are also not immune to vanity, and liked being tall. This was bred into their travelers so they could impress the subjects on the remote worlds they sought to discover.

The biggest difficulty, however, was the uncertainty in just how fast they had to travel versus how far away their destination planets were. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle again came into play, and because the aliens did not want to risk missing an observation of the Schrodinger effect (risking the possibility of a very nasty clawing from an irate hairless cat companion) they bred their space travelers with extra big eyes to be able to see if a cat was about to attack.

The main difficulty with this was the early travelers found themselves victims of the Uncertainty Principle again, and ended up smashing into the earth at such great speed they caused the original dinosaur mass extinction. This resulted in some consternation on the aliens’ home world, as they did not want to cause any harm. They tried again.

Fast forward a few millennia, and the next alien ship visitation was able to slow itself considerably before striking the earth. However, this new design was built on the globe/gun design described above for a simple nuclear bomb. Scientists have speculated this was done with the idea of absorbing impact; opinions are divided. What is known most certainly, of course, is this design resulted in punching a hole into the crust of the earth and gave us an explosion resulting in the earth flattening out and then rapidly contracting around the space ship. When the space ship was retrieved and used as the pattern for both the first U-235/U-238 separating centrifuge and the first uranium bomb, this gave us the hollow earth center where all the alien cats continue to reside.

    QED.
