Also...on a positive but could have been a horrible note...

Friend called me a couple of hours ago as she was driving to Reno. Her nephew, a Reno PD officer, was shot on the job and no one would tell her what was going on beyond that, and he was in the hospital and it didn't look good. She wanted me to look stuff up and report back.

Upon Googling and her finally getting more info, he was injured on the job (beaten, badly, by someone disturbing the peace, but not shot) and apparently he did shoot that person (we think). He's confused, can't remember much, isn't even sure what is going on with him right now, but he was wearing his body cam so...we'll know full story soon. And he will recover.

Thank. Goodness. I was afearing another officer killed otj local (ish) story, but he's going to be ok. He has a wife and 6 month old son who need him.

I'm so relieved.

I work around the corner from a ginormous church. When an officer (PD or Sheriff) is killed around here, that is where the service is held.

It is very sad how many times I've gone out front of my office and held my hand over my heart as the casket rolls by. I then stay out there until every single other officer who is following the casket drives by to show my respect because...it could be them any day. Reno PD always show up here for the services.

Oh, and this guy is a Marine who left service with 3 purple hearts. So, dude is really putting himself out there in service of others. I need to send something up for the family. I've never met him directly, just his wife and his MIL and the rest of his family, but not him directly (that I remember...?) But I've known the family for almost 30 years now.
