Yes but someone told me blocking is permanent. I want to block the study not the researcher. Just like on MTurk, a researcher may have some studies I want and some that I don't.

On MTurk of course I have my customized software suite that lets me block and filter very selectively.

So now I guess I have to write some software for use with Prolific and Connect too? :-/ — (Not going to do that.)

All the platforms, including MTurk to begin with, should've given us far better front-end tools ready to use.

The whole deal with complex third-party scripting for MTurk has always been ridiculous, the fact that we need such downloads just to get basic filtering features, plus all the silliness with competitive high-rate polling we do on MTurk (tuning it just fast enough to avoid excessive PREs), it's so stupid to require third-party software (or self-written like mine) to implement stuff like that at the client end. The service's baseline functionality should already have been that good without requiring third-party scripting suites.

 

Yeah, I think you can only hide individual studies on connect.

 

I should get diagnosed to find out why I can't do social psych studies properly. For example I have NO idea whether being bald or having green eyes or big ears or freckles or a stylishly unkempt coiffure makes you look more or less trustworthy, intelligent, ethical, hardworking, sociable, likable, gentle, kind, pugilistic, punitive, perky, plucky, precocious, meticulous, carefree, or any other personality characteristics. I just DON'T KNOW how to judge such things based solely on what your face looks like. And because I JUST DON'T KNOW, my responses are completely worthless, which is why I almost always return these studies (except when I'm really desperate for that 35 cents).

 

We're all messed up in ways, man. Just complete the study honestly. You're as good as anyone else.

 

Many people are able to make such judgments. They'll take one look at your face and form a whole set of presumptions. Some of those presumptions might perchance be correct, some probably are not. It's certainly not a very "scientific" way to judge people, although studies can explore such judgments scientifically.

 

"8-question survey" on Prolific:

This one glitched out on me. After one of the question pages, an error message appeared ("We are unable to...") and disappeared before I could finish reading it. Then the survey suddenly terminated. — I reported the issue to Prolific and the researcher.

I think eventually Prolific will offer more options. I've found there are researchers who are definitely worth blocking. Reading Reddit can be helpful since that's the closest thing to reviews we have for them.

I would not advise using scripts on Prolific or Connect. You will likely be banned. Connect (CloudResearch) seems to resent the fact that we want to earn money doing this and look for excuses to disqualify workers.

I'm surprised Connect and Prolific didn't deactivate my account after a year nearly inactive. I'm probably low on their radar. They can probably ignore me. Demographically I'm out of luck (i.e. old) so I only get a trickle of studies anyway. I'm a low-impact participant.

 

Caution:
On one of the studies on Prolific, a certain page's content may tempt you to use your browser's in-page search function (e.g. Ctrl+F on a Windows browser). Doing that will cause the survey to advance immediately to the next page, before you finished the task you were doing (on the page that is then unreachable because there's no back button). You will then probably need to return the study.
