MTurk's timer starts when you accept a HIT and stops when you submit it.

Either way is fine with me.. I pause mine because I go work on something else (or poop-post) so I'm not actively waiting on it to submit or anything. If you pause and then don't go work on something productive with your time it's probably fine to count it against his hourly given his weird rejection criteria is holding up your day.. so, dozen of one 3.5 of the other

I've submitted all the surveys quickly and the only rejection I've gotten so far was from submitting on mturk too quickly. That was back when it had a short timer and I opened the hit at like halfway through the timer and didn't have enough time to bake it.
