i would think the term "smartphone" is descriptive enough to not include ipads, but good luck to you.

Yes, you may complete the task using an iPhone. As long as the screenshots you provide feature the running time of the phone's apps, you may complete the task with any make or model of phone.

There isn't a technical difference. The ipad shares hardware with the older iphones that aren't excluded.
