Some semi-interesting forum trivia:
(this might've been discovered / mentioned by someone at some point, but since I don't remember seeing it, I'm treating this as entirely new information)
So I was sipping on my morning coffee earlier today and digging through the forum code to try to find the most efficient way to suppress all those forum errors, and stumbled upon an interesting piece of code.
You know how the threads here automatically refresh and add new posts (called live-update), so you don't have to manually refresh the page? Well apparently CT, in all his wisdom, added some code to make the live-update stop at 8:15 am UTC (which is 3:15 am Eastern or 4:15 am Eastern during daylight saving) for all threads that have 100+ posts. There's a comment in the code justifying this decision by basically saying that "surely someone has made a new daily thread by now, no need for live-update here anymore" lmaooo :ap: .
Now, no daily thread gets to 100+ posts these days, so live-update never gets disabled, but back in the day, all the way through 2022 (and occasionally later too) pretty much all daily threads had hundreds of posts and sometimes even 1000+. And it's very rare that a new thread would be created by 3:15 am. So for all those years, any post made in the dreadful hours between 3:15 am and whenever the new thread was posted, would only be seen by people who manually refreshed the page. I wonder how many posts went (largely) unseen because of this and how many people noticed and were wondering why their live-update was breaking randomly. Also, how many turkers are forever stuck in one of those threads, waiting for the "New thread here:" post that never arrived. Those poor souls...-

Quick screener hit for future footwear surveys.Cons:
Seems a bit sketchy as the approval rating is at 68% of the time of writing. It appears they are looking for people in a very specific area and I hope they aren't going to use this screener to mass reject people who fail their criteria checks.

I still have those two bots I made (one that posts a good morning post with a random cat GIF from Giphy and the other with "It's coffee time" and a random coffee GIF). The cat GIFs are even checked against an AI model that I trained to understand which cat GIFs I like and which ones are meh, but it's still pretty bad IIRC.
Now that you reminded me, I'mma run both of them real quick and see what happens. If it ends up being the last straw and the forum finally goes belly up, or if the GIFs turn out to be ..ummm.. not very family-friendly, I'm blaming you. :ap:
