I felt really awful for them, cause they were getting married really soon and almost everything for their wedding was in the guest room of their place and she watched her wedding dress, goody bags, passports, etc burn to the damn ground while we stood there holding her dogs who had a total panic attack. Anddddd then my lungs crapped out from all the smoke I sucked in and I promptly hit the ground. She had treated me in the Er a bunch, and knew I should have avoided the building because of my janky lungs, and thus told her fiance he better give me super extra credit so I would get an A The governor ended up expediting new passports for them so at least they did make their honeymoon. I actually didn't know she was engaged to my econ prof, cause they worked opposite schedules and I never saw them at the same time. I just knew they were both in that building and didn't want my neighbors to be in a burning building without knowing. The whole thing happened cause some jagoff threw a still burning cigarette into a mulch woodchip pile whatever and it smoldered and eventually set the outside of the building on fire and everything went woosh. I only noticed cause I had just pulled in the gate and was driving with the top down and something smelled hinky. I'm really glad I hopped out of the car, because everything burnt down in like a 15 minute span and it was sheer coincidence I was in the right position to notice (I even came home an hour later than normal).

Sometimes life is just sheer dumb luck and I'm really really glad that was a time when everything lined up like that.
