I got scammed on ebay a couple of times over the years. So I stopped shopping there. To be fair, ebay reimbursed me, but I'm still warry. I do look for refurb/open box on amazon before I buy new. It depends on the reviews of others if I risk it or not.

ebay is extremely safe to buy from now, even buying from potentially shady sellers is totally risk free.

ebay always sides with the buyer now, to the point where many smaller sellers have a hard time taking hits in their business with refund scammers

all you have to do is open a request on the problem item and the seller has 6 days to make it right... you always get a replacement or full refund if the item is damaged/not as described. Don't even have to call ebay or anything
