How does reddit deliver desktop notifications when I don't have any tabs open on reddit

i have a follow up question, why did they all of a sudden start emailing me "here's what you've missed" type stuff multiple times a day? less intrusive and less scary than unsolicited notifications, but like yo, i'll read my subreddits when i want to. i have my subreddits/multireddits organized in a very specific way for myself, i don't need you guessing what i need delivered to my inbox butyesthankyoufortheemailaboutashowilikebeingpickedupforafifthseasonbutstillleavemealone

 

Because you have that setting enabled? That sounds like stuff that was added with the garbage 'new reddit' thing but you can prob disable it.

 

you mean, the ultimate goal of serving you ads without telling you it's an ad?

 

The 'new reddit' experience is basically a bad desktop version of their awful official mobile app that everyone shits on and uses third party ones like reddit sync, apollo, reddit is fun etc.

i opted out of new reddit the very first time i saw it because i don't like change. and i haven't changed any setting since forever, and this has only been the last two weeks.

 

Just turn the setting off to disable the emails. I bet that there is even a direct link to the setting in the emails but you just want to QQ about something that is easily fixable I guess.

 

lol i'm doing this and almost done (about ~15 - 20 minutes, no writing), I let it sit in my queue for almost a day

The real question is how @ChrisTurk doesn't know about push notifications when his own website supports them.

 

Kinda sucks for reddit but by far the most effective ads are the posts that aren't ads.

Those are most likely also ads. Power users sometimes get contacted to post ads for companies and it is super obvious when it happens for anyone that has been around for awhile.

Most of the time though companies just make their own group of accounts to spam stuff by getting karma from reposts before posting their own shit.
