Dunno how old you are, but I'm 37 and I've seen a shit-load of Star Trek tech come to fruition. The Apple IIc eventually became the Star Trek PADD, suitcase sized phones became touch screen phones that'll read your pulse just using the LED and camera and now there's the KardiaMobile EKG and the Galaxy Active watches.

Alcubierre re-writing Einstein's equations to allow for a warp drive that could be viable in 100-200 years' time...Holography. VR. TVs as thin as a Sunday morning newspaper. The ISS. Robots on Mars. Electric cars. Working jetpacks (still in testing, but they work!) Camera drones.

We've still lived through a lot of neat shit. It's been a good run.

Not to mention prosthetic limbs that work by reading nerve impulses, even if the amputee has to learn to control different muscles if the amputation was an emergency and the nerves couldn't be stripped and relocated before amputation.

    Totally agree.

Although the innovation trend seems to be more towards refinement rather than invention anymore. I think that's what she's getting at?

When I see something like this I'll be happy:

Naaa but those are great advancements. I guess I just want to see something more substantial that isn't built off something pre-existing which likely won't happen for another 500-1000 years. Imagine people in 3000 looking back at us the way we look back at those who lived in 1000. :emoji_grimacing:

People in 3000 will most likely be wandering around wearing animal skins and looking through the rubble of civilization. I think they'll think we were pretty awesome by comparison.

Nope. I didn't even bother. The kid needs therapy, and no one's seen her in the neighborhood since. I'll take the loss if it means she's gone. I have zero interest in stirring shit and have some "precocious" 11 year old abuse victim start throwing accusations around if she's found with $200 and tries to come up with an explanation how she got it.

People make me miss being homeless under a bridge some time, when I have no say in who comes and goes in the house I'm living in.

You have a marginal chance of being alive long enough to see delayed senescence and improvements in oncology extending your lifespan long enough for generative BCI to gradually replace your brain, turning you into a genuinely immortal machine intelligence.

Honestly I'd say the slight chance of realizing LEV in the next few decades is the number one argument for wanting to be born later.

    Pros:
Interesting questions if machine learning tickles your senses. Very easy to get lost in a deep thought for the writing responses. Keep your focus and it's $2/5min
    Cons:
    UI was funky,
    - slider bars were very compact
    - form input field instead of textarea (one long sentence instead of line wrapping)
