Realize that no matter what you do as a parent that at a certain point they make their future choices. You can push them in the right direction and explain WHY they should strive for more.
My pops did that and I realized that I just want a calm life unlike the 'go go business' life my dad wanted for me. The more he pushed for that life he wanted for me, the less I wanted it.
Gotta find the balance of how to teach them the idea that to live at all you need to find a job you can stand so you can pay for your hobbies.

I mean like, my goal in life is to be a stoned chicken farmer with a comfy garden in the woods. So ymmv on all that garbage I puked lol

 

I'm not even joking but you might get better responses off of a parenting sub reddit or something rather than a turk forum. But here's my attempt: It might be most prudent to find out the reason why, which might involve lots of time, therapy, and heartache.
