Are US Prolific users using paypal to convert pounds to dollars? Do we even have to?

I've been letting my Prolific build up before cashing out, and I just noticed paypal has a few options for receiving foreign funds. One is the offer to convert for a fee. Did they do it automatically before?

Anyone know where I might look for this Qual?

 

I convert it every time. I assume I can't spend pounds, but I have just a paypal debit card connected to my paypal account that I use directly. It might be different if you were using a regular bank.

 

damn that sucks. it was actually a pretty good hit only taking me 30 minutes on my first cup of coffee. I saw the warning that you only had two shots at the ACs so I went back to reread a few times to make sure I got them correct.

 

keep in mind too that Prolific has a threshold on automatic payouts so if its a big balance you'll have to wait until they do manual cashouts on Tuesdays and Fridays. I PayPal to convert but some banks will let you deposit pounds into your account and even then the bank will charge you for conversion. I would check the rates with your bank and compare them to PayPal's fees.

 

You can exchange pounds to dollars on PayPal. When you go to transfer funds it will say what the amount of dollars is after the exchange from pounds and what the exchange rate is. PayPal does take a bit off the top of the exchange rate (e.g. offering $1.10 per £1.00 instead of the actual exchange rate of $1.12 per £1.00).

Beyond the worse exchange rate, the only other fee is if you do an instant transfer to your bank with the fee being higher the more money you transfer.You can transfer non-instantly in order to not pay the instant fee, but it takes 1 or 2 business days. Just be careful to actually select the non-instant transfer as PayPal tries to trick you during the transfer process by making the instant transfer 'Transfer in minutes' in a much bigger font and blue background with the 'Not Now' in much smaller text in regular background color.
