The only other thing I know of that'll do that is an extension. do you have an extension for connect/cloud research installed? If so, try turning it off to see if that's it.

 

Can you click the button that says "Open a specific page or set of pages" and find Connect on there, and remove it with the dots on the right? Then go back and check "Open the New Tab page".

CloudResearch fuckery never ends. lol

If that doesn't work, try this:

At the top right, select More. Settings.
Under "Appearance," see Show Home button.
Under "Show Home button," choose to use the New Tab page or a custom page.
Check and see if Connect is the page here, you can change it.

 

Thanks, I tried both but neither one of these things showed any url to go to on starting the browser. they both say to open a new tab page (the blank page).

 

that was it! I had installed an auto refresh extension from the chrome web store after I started working on connect. it's because connect doesn't automatically show new available hits. the extension had the connect dashboard url set to open and start refreshing both automatically when I start the browser.
