Teenagers. Sigh.

He has to be at a robotics event at 8 am at his high school. He's just volunteering, this is for the younger kids so the high school kids staff the event to help out.

He also is pet/yard/plant sitting for the neighbor which requires he go over there every morning.

He also needs to eat.

at 7:15 I ask him if he's done ANY of these things. "No." He replies, while he's laying in bed playing the Switch.

I used my awesome momming technique. "Well, then, I suggest you get the fuck up and get moving before I get more pissed that I had to get up early on a Saturday."

I win the mom award today!

(And yeah, I'm glad this is my biggest Grinch about my teenager. He can be lazy and can't time manage for shit.)

And it gets better! Asks me next what he's supposed to do. What? I tell him we're leaving in 5 minutes to be there at 8 so maybe brush his teeth and put on some deodorant so people don't avoid him today?

he said, "Wait, we're leaving at 7:45? I thought we were leaving at 8" I ask him how the heck he is supposed to be at his high school at 8 and we leave at 8.

"Wait, it's at my high school?"

what the eff kid!!??!!! You signed up for this and told ME ABOUT IT. I just assumed it was at the high school!

(note: I found a text exchange and setup was at the high school last night so yeah, it is, but he should have known that, lol.)

I actually do have suggestions! I used to give my kid choices, so it seemed like it was his idea to go to bed.

But the other choice has to be something you know he doesn't like to do.

"do you want to go lie down in bed and have Mom read you a story and then you stay there and go to sleep, or do you want to help mom clean out the refrigerator?"

I mean, come up with something else, but you get the drift. Then he chooses bed and WHAMMO. It wasn't your idea. IT WAS HIS!

 

I think I married a teenager masqueradimg as a man.... near exact conversations go on in our house daily.
