"Rich" all depends on who you compare yourself to.

Being able to pay off a Hummer in cash feels good to someone who was raised on food stamps.
Go to downtown Seattle and you can find wealthy folks who laugh at the poor folks who have to choose between a brand new Ferrari or Lambo because they can't afford both.

In global terms, even the poorest of us (even some of the homeless) in the US are "rich".

 

Just like when a comedian tells an off color joke. Doesn't mean he/she is racist, sexist, etc. It's part of their bit. And in the case of rap, it's often telling a story, even if it isn't their own, it's still a real story that they witnessed.

Rap has positivity too. I mean Logic has gained a ton of notoriety for "1-800-273-8255" especially after the VMA's. It's not all a bunch of "pimps and hoes". And honestly, there's a lot of political activism and good that comes from the genre, particularly in underprivileged areas, we just don't always hear about it.

There's barely anything LL that falls into the objectionable category, taking it all the way back to I Need Love to the more recent stuff

 

Conscious Hip Hop is an acquired taste though. Just like I refuse to watch happy TV shows some people dont want positive music lol. All my favorite songs are dark as hell.
