    Just so happened to think your issue could just be you may be making the dough too thick. You could try rolling it out a little thinner next time, maybe no need for smashing then.

    That could also be, I always have trouble trying to get the thickness right. Do you know a way to tell if its too thick/thin (besides using a ruler :emoji_upside_down:)?

    Try an adjustable rolling pin. They're great when you need even thickness (I hate eyeballing thickness too). They look like this :emoji_point_down:

    I have a wood one and a stainless one, would recommend stainless since the clean-up/maintenance is easier. Either one is pretty inexpensive and they're a bunch on Amazon or some kitchen stores carry them if you need it immediately.

    Luckily I don't need it right away, these cookies are just for my fam and they don't care if my cookies are puffy. I do care, since I want my cookies to look as good as they taste.
