Met with our house builder again today and they are asking for $100k more than I'm preapproved for @____@ I know the economy is shit right now but $500k to build a 3 bedroom house (not including the price of the land!) feels crazy where I live. We bought our 3 bedroom townhome 4 1/2 years ago for $250k.

 

My grandparents built 2 very nice premanufactured homes in Hood River, OR. I think you just need a contractor to pour a slab, that's it. And hook up to utilities.

 

I know a house can be build cheap, but I also want this house to stand for the next 50 years without repairs. We're going with a mid-to-high range builder, so that's definitely part of it. But it's still a *house*, not a mansion.

Nice. Yeah, the ones they built were nearly identical to a traditionally constructed, ranch style home. It was even two stories. They also built a motel in that city. My gpa was awesome.

That sounds awesome! We also want a house without an open floor plan so good luck with prefab there. Everything is open right now. So I feel like we don't have much of a choice. But if you have the flexibility, totally go with something like what your grandpa put up!

 

That's cool, nothing wrong with building your dream home. I would talk to other contractors though.

 

Is it just me or is this latest batch from Alexandria actually more work than the last set with this change....and the last set was really not one of my favorites. This batch doesn't make sense to me. Or maybe I'm just too tired.

Alexandria is going downhill. Batches are small and the tasks take more time to figure out for less pay... hope they turn it around

These fact checking ones seem to largely be luck based in terms of what you end up with. If you get ones that actually require fact checking, its too much time (for the pay)
