Crumbled cake, likely from whatever she trimmed off. Common thing with cake, especially red velvet in particular! Sorry if that's not exciting

As long as it's pretty. My crumbles will probably end up looking like big red blob clumps. lol

 

Food processor? That's my go to for properly crumbling, cause I have arthritic hulk hands that just squish all the things!

 

Okay, that'll work. I was thinking a cheese grater but your idea is probably more reliable.

 

This. And you might be able to get some smaller crumbles if you dry out the trimmings first.

I'd just pop the trimmings back into the oven for a bit. Just keep an eye on them so they don't burn and give them a poke every now and then to check your progress.

At this point, I'm safely assuming @lapetitebaker will give a better worded answer about drying them out in the oven or overnight, so I'm just letting it happen.
