You don't have to trim cats claws if you give them plenty of stuff to scratch. We have cat scratchers, boxes, and Bearnie's favorite- a straight up log. That's why they scratch, to maintain their cute little claws.

The old desk in our house has wicker legs, the cats scratched that thing to bits, we just deal with it cause seriously, if I were a cat I would scratch the fuck out of that thing too. I'm actually glad cause I hate that desk and it was too small. Let this be a lesson folks, wicker and cats do not mix. The key is to use that as part of your multi-pronged argument for a better desk that you convince your fiance to make you.

 

Trimming is still an option that doesn't basically remove the tip of their 'finger's paws w/e

 

We have a cat that bites her own nails to trim them. We were assured that some cats do this instead of scratching things, so that's fine, but what a waste all the scratching post purchases were lol

 

Actually it is kinda hard cause cats hate that sort of thing and they wiggle around, but still a million times better and way more humane than declawing.

I was just saying that in general, if cats have enough crap to scratch, they wouldn't need their nails trimmed to begin with. I'm pretty sure Bearnie would cut me in my sleep if I tried to trim his nails. He's very happy with his cardboard and log though and I've rarely if ever seen him scratch furniture outside of that damned wicker desk from hell.

That's both gross and super funny. Cats are so delightfully weird! Bearnie loves firewood to the point he tried to nearly set himself on fire in the fireplace pulling some of it out WHILE IT WAS ON FIRE. Almost had to rename him Burn-ie, amirite?!
