I never listened to them at that point, but I definitely remember their pre-Fergie era because I seem to recall MTV going crazy and proclaiming them the next big thing in hip hop. Once they exploded I would always ask people if they remember that. No one ever did. I felt like I was going crazy.

And since we're sharing "positive" hip hop:

 

You sound like me and customer service. I got a few job offers but after almost 20 years of it I had to pass ..Of course it was out of the home and only 11.50 a hour so you got a much BETTER offer (except for the job I left, most of WV wages suck).

For sure, I mostly listen to industrial and dark wave but I mix it up. I appreciate all types of music. I have hip hop, country, synth pop, rock, punk, alt, electronic, minimal, rap rave, pop, etc playlists. If something tells a story well that is usually what does it for me.

My favorite(?) part of listening to hip hop/rap is when you finally hear the dirty version of a song after years of hearing the clean one on the radio. And liking the censored version better. J-Kwon's Tipsy comes to mind.
