12/13 - Wondrous Wednesday!

Good morning everyone

I see the hustle and bustle to get prepared for the Worker switchover is happening this morning. I've been thinking, for new scripts being made or updated, there may be some theme clashes happening.

In short, I won't be updating my themes to accommodate for custom CSS found in 3rd party scripts. If you're a scripter who pulls from MTurk's own CSS, my dark themes should work fine (exceptions are missed MTurk CSS variables that I haven't themed - if this is the case, let me know so I can fix it!)

If a scripter implemented a bright white CSS setup using their own custom CSS, that's on them and I won't be able to modify my themes to accommodate (otherwise, I'll have to constantly update the themes non-stop, all the time, until the end of time )

Anywho, just wanted to say thank you so much for the # of installs on the dark themes! You're all amazing

Nice investigative work.

Yeah, that would solve the issue for Overwatch, but a more universal user-side fix would be to open up the CSS Async script, click the script's "settings" tab, and move it to position 1. As long as the script runs before Overwatch runs, OW doesn't start up white.

Otherwise, I have to be more specific with the @include (not a problem if I want it to only work when working a HIT, and not for the rest of the site), or come up with an @exclude list of every userscript-specific Worker URL a person could use and make sure to exclude it on every one of those to avoid potential interactions.

For now, I'll just @exclude worker.mturk.com/overwatch as a band-aid though.

The problem is caused by CSS specificity between the built-in stylesheet and Overwatch's CSS styles. They're both trying to select some stuff with the same level of specificity, and one of the rules in CSS is that when there's a conflict, the more recently-applied styles take precedence. And when the default Worker styles are being moved to the tail end of the body, they're suddenly becoming "the more recently applied styles".

This headache is why what I'm doing (moving CSS to the body) is generally frowned upon, but IMO it's worth it in this context, since it's a simple way to speed up the site and make it easier to work faster.

I probably would've noticed all of this earlier, but I run Overwatch/PC in one profile and work out of a different one. I don't even have the script installed on the profile where I run Overwatch. A lot of my public scripts are released on a "hey I wrote this for me and you can use it too if it helps you" basis, and so many of them make assumptions about workflow that are specific to me. Lol.
