I wouldn't listen to them if I were you. If the qual opens back up again (which it very well may since they're having problems and qualling is the idiot's way of easy fixing things on mTurk) you should absolutely try & get it.

You never know, they could revert back to the old system at any moment and then you'd be missing out on tons of money. It may not be likely, but its better to put yourself into the right position than just take a moral stand w/ folks who are only doing it because they can. If I was desperate or even mildly needy for work on mTurk I'm glad their HITs are sitting there for me to do, even if I wouldn't call 911 if their staff got hit by a bus right in front of me (I'd be using my phone to put in my job application to take over the project maybe after that I would)

ETA: Maybe I should qualify the above is just a morbid joke. They're dicks, but obvi if that actually happened to someone I think I'd be a big enough person to not mind putting $20 over someone's actual life lmao).
