    Half my Nana's recipes are a list of ingredients with 0 measurements or instructions and I do it by taste and sight. She claimed "every sauce is a little different because it's always what you needed." (sometimes I need excessive garlic and other times I need shallots, ya know?)

    There are a few I've noted down with more precise measurements, so I can hand them off to folks, but it's still definitely helpful to stand around and see it done at least once, cause there are just some things I feel reading a recipe can't always translate. Especially stuff like biscuits too. I used to botch biscuits a bit and then I made biscuits all day with a grandma who showed me the way! (I was pressing too hard on the biscuit cutter and over mixing).

    Personally, I find it fun to learn that stuff, but I get some people just don't!

    Momma always just used her normal sweet potato pie recipe that made 2 pies and added coconut to one cause that's the only way daddy would eat it and left one plain because I wouldn't eat coconut when I was little.

    I mostly horde the recipe I mentioned because I'm a dick. We have no tradition in my family except that one dish. My great-grandmother grew up on a farm where they were dirt poor and had to make do with what they had. It's a bit different than normal dressing because it uses ground meat (it's what they had on the farm). My sisters had ample time to learn it as my great-grandmother almost begged them to come and cook with her every thanksgiving/christmas and never wanted too. After she died they got upset that I knew the recipe and argued that "only the women were supposed to know it". My wife knows how to make it which at least made my grandmother (whom is still alive) happy. I guess I'll pass it on to my son since I don't have a daughter.
