Have you seen my weather lately? It's been crazy! :emoji_joy: I'm driving 2 hours on Sunday just to go somewhere that isn't intermittent snow/hail/wind storms. On the upside, I'll probably get to test out my new emergency poncho, woooo! My last one leaked on me :emoji_rage: I just bop around depending on the season. Get my deserty canyony hikes during the fall/winter months (except for this time period, where it's like a nightmare from hell lol) and I'll switch to the more sea level hikes come the spring and then peace out to the higher altitude hikes during the summer. The high here last summer was like 109ish? Hard pass on leaving the house!

I totally get that tho. I make do, but only because I'm a legit crazy person who has crossed the line from "I like to hike when the weather is nice!" to "they make tiny spikes for my hiking shoes, so I can barrel thru the snowwwww! Did I just break my toe?! NEAT!" I have to keep a little personal emergency beacon thingy on me now and Matt got me a handheld garmin cause I had a couple incidents where he wasn't sure if I was dead or not until I got back into cell range:emoji_sweat_smile: oh! I also have one of those super compact life vests that goes poof! which is a product of when I hiked a canyon that could flash flood and did not wish to drown to death that day.

I figure the worse that happens is I get mauled by a bear (more realistically, a mountain lion or rattlesnek) or have to re-enact 127 hours, no biggie! I have legit awful anxiety. I'm not sure why I go outside EVER.

I have seen your crazy weather postings. I keep debating next time I move on somewhere warmer, but then you get the "
The high here last summer was like 109ish? Hard pass on leaving the house" weather. I didn't like that much when I was in Texas back in 2000, but I feel like the cold bothers me more than it used to so :dunno:. I think I might just need to become migratory somehow.

I'm just chomping at the bit to get outside. I'm not a serious hiker, but I like long walks and usually hit the forest proper at least once a week when it's warmer. Sunday looks alright then right back to cold. :(

Oh and I didn't mean to imply it's easy for you to get out like you do. I'm also jealous of your commitment there. The pics are always awesome, but they have really made me want to get out of Illinois the last few months.

Have you met my good friend merino wool?

I splurged on fancy wool hiking tights with wind panels this year and oh my goodness. LIFE CHANGER! I am head to toe wool whenever I'm on a mountain the winter OR I WOULD DIE. I think I was head to toe merino in Lone Pine :emoji_joy:! I may or may not have "borrowed" a wool scarf and hat of Matt's. Skeeter seems totally unphased and refuses to wear his jacket until it's under 20, so I carry it like a sucker just in case he gets chilly. If you're looking to get some steps in colder weather, I highly recommend some wool and good ol' fashioned thermal undies! (All the rage, really!) One of my friends was camping in the snow last weekend and she's way more badass than I am. It was like -3 and I would have not slept in a tent in that weather if you PAID ME. Ok, maybe if you paid me.

I feel ya on the going crazy thing. I had to postpone my hike last weekend cause of the weather being so crap everywhere and they closed the mountain pass (so much for snow shoeing, hmmph, I think I'm not gonna get to go this year and I'm pretty peeved) and I told Matt I was going hiking this weekend come hell or highwater!

No worries, I didn't take it that way! Tbh, I was a prissy little princess most of my life who did not abide dirt or getting sweaty outside and it has thrown Matt for a loop that I veered so far in the other direction. I just kinda decided to give less shits, so to speak, cause I have really extreme anxiety and I was really unhappy for a long time about the things my anxiety told me I shouldn't do. I legit cry during hikes more than is flattering to admit, but I just kinda push thru in an attempt to not let my own shitty anxiety stop me- the adrenaline rush is super handy tho! I did get paralyzed with fear on a narrow cliff this year tho and Matt had to coax me across cause I just kinda stopped and grabbed onto the nearest rock for a few minutes in abject fear. I'll have to dig out the pics of Matt casually hanging half off a cliff like it was nothing. I made him delete the ones of me, cause I'm kinda just clinging on for dear life.
