I don't like drinking. It's about as bad as enjoying yourself on occasion.

Bad news about my Aunt. She's off all life support and can breathe on her own, but...the brain damage is severe. At best she's functioning at infantile level (like, she'll squeeze your hand if you hold hers, and she'll look at you when you talk to her, but she makes zero attempt to talk back and she's not at all able to communicate, not even with hand squeezing or blinking). The doctors say it won't get any better, the brain damage and the area it's in is severe.

So Mom and I made the decision to discontinue her cancer treatments. In an odd way, the cancer is now a blessing because had this happened and she not have cancer, she could have lived in this state for years and years, and she was very clear with us she did not want that, or any life saving measures.

It's been a rough weekend. Took kiddo to see her today and he's not really talking about it except to say he wishes he'd spent more time with her.

I'm glad you took your kid to see her. When my grandma had her heart attack followed by her stroke, for the month she was in the nursing home, my parents refused to take me. "You don't want to see her like this," they said. Well, when she died, I had no memories of her not being healthy, so I couldn't wrap my head around how she could be gone. Seeing my other grandma when she was sick in the hospital helped me process things, even though it was tough to see her like that.

Sounds like you and your mom made a good decision, tough as it is.

That's good to hear. He wanted to go, I told him what he might see. But even I was a little freaked when I saw her awake and looking around but not *there*. She's also bald due to the chemo so it's really weird to see her like this overall.

I don't know that my kid will want to go back again, but he's glad he went today. He's not really talking about it, though.

Not sure how old he is, but I'm a big advocate for therapy. Sometimes it is hard for kids to tell their parents what they are feeling but they can express it and work through it elsewhere. Grief is hard at any age, but especially for a child.

    Yupp.

Beyond the fact there is almost always a requester here (or academic studying the place when they shouldn't be) there have been times when "journalists" (and others) quote things here to make workers (in general, let alone this website) look like shitters.

I TRY not to feed the trolls.. although if you listen to the normal day-to-day chit chat I engage in I also give folks plenty of fodder to quote loool. Just don't be offended if something gets nuked (or if something someone else posts doesn't, we don't catch everything)

He's 14. 15 in May. He's been in therapy before so he knows how helpful it is. I might run that by him, thank you for the suggestion. Since he already has experience with it, he's actually able to evaluate if he thinks it might help.

This, sadly, is not the first person he's lost. Both of my grandmothers have died in the last few years and he was close to them, and my cousin died a few years ago. So he has, unfortunately, a lot of experience processing death and grief. :(

Lesson learned Mr. Boss Man. If it makes anyone feel any better, I didn't even feel a buzz. Just tried to force myself to feel happy and social and overcompensated for that when the bottle didn't do it for me.

If they're studying this forum they'll realize there are a LOT of cats, many of us like yarn, some of us try not to swear out of respect for Tracy, we have a random polar bear, and we massively overshare our lives with a bunch of strangers! Among many other things I could mention.

We're a society to be studied.
