east coast west coast pay more money for food. butter on sale for $2.49 here on a regular basis.

 

I’d make an offering to baking Satan if I could get Kerrygold for less than 2 bucks. President butter was on sale for 2.49 the other day when I was in another town (cause, no joke, it was a buck more expensive, still on sale, when I went up the mountain) and I bought 4.

 

we had 5 lb bag of potatoes for 98 cents last week

 

It’s mostly cause I live in a rural area. It’s a couple bucks cheaper when I do the bulk of my shopping in another town.

 

I can't figure out what is a good deal for a lb of fresh strawberries though. I paid too much the last 3 years.

Costco sells it for ~$2.70/lb here. Not sure if you guys are talking per lb price or not...

But yeah stuff is expensive here in California.

Are you talking normal butter or kerrygold? If Costco had a pound of kerrygold for 2.70, I'd buy a membership immediately LOL.

 

It's not expensive here either. IF YOU ONLY BUY ONE! But the sheer amount I have to use in my recipes makes it add up quickly.

Aldi! You just have to live in nowhere!

 

Hah yeah. Even at 2.85, it doesn’t bother me. But then it’s like...my recipe calls for 2 cups of butter and I start to die internally when I do the math. Oh! And then the frosting needs butter. Cinnamon filling? More butter. I use less expensive butter for certain things, but pastries and the like are so much butter.

 

I love aldi and wish one was closer than 35 minutes away. I still go every 3 weeks and buy a mass quantity of groceries lol.

 

Yeah, cheap stuff won't work in buttercream.

 

I know someone who tried to make croissants with cheap butter and asked me why it was a disaster.

 

Or when people try to use margarine.
