I've spent the last hour attempting to draw up plans so I can build a chicken coop.

Considering the fact that I am horrible at building and have basically no carpentry ability I am starting to realize I shouldn't have let my wife/son talk me into getting chickens again.

    Actual picture of me currently:

I hear they can get REALLY aggressive when they hit breeding age and there isn't much you can do about it. But that's just hearsay from my end.
Depends on your quals and the day of the week and the winds of chaos that sprinkle this job sometimes.

We got a chicken coop that came with the house. Haven't used it yet so the wasps and spiders did. I'm noot looking forward to get in there this winter and cleaning it out. We plan on hopefully year 2-3 here getting some chickens because god damn we love eggs.

I would suggest something smaller and mobile so you can move it around your property so all of the straw and stuff doesn't just saturate the ground. A-frames with wheels are a good option. You'll probably find that they won't use a large part of the coop. We had 12 birds and my husband built this monster of a coop with individual roosting boxes and they only used 2 of the boxes. They were so much fun but in the city they made such a mess and the neighbors were not too fond of the smell. Whenever we move out into the country we plan on getting them again.

I had chickens when I was a child but I had my grandfather/dad around to help because I'm stupid. Unfortunately, I took the electronics route in the family while they were old school carpenters/mechanics. I've got some ideas but I have to make sure it's secure/safe at night (closable door, etc) so opossums don't nom my chickens.

We've been trying to become more self-sufficient with a bigger garden/chickens but I am not the homesteading type because...well I'm dumb.

It's not that we NEED to do it but my wife always had this dream of having a farmy type house with a garden/few animals but we haven't been able to move so I'm trying my best to give her that with the limited ability I have.

When we had wasps when I was a child we would make a fire near the coop (if possible obviously) and basically smoke it out for a few hours before we tried to remove all the stinging bugs of misery.
