    The name refers to who they hire.

    They hire browns, just as the red skins hire Indians.

    Such narrow spectrum hiring practices were once acceptable in the past, but have proven difficult in the modern day.

    Some teams have expanded on this though. The Buffalo Bills - who once only hired Bills, have expanded to hiring Billys and Williams - not that it's helped them much.
