    Nah they (wife + family) are the ones who went to the mechanic and he wrote them up a $1200 work estimate.

    I felt it was a bit high due to my own research and we went to 4 others all of which gave us much lower ($600) estimates. I feel like hes at the point to where he is just gouging people that he has had as clients for a long time. I've never used him so I don't have any personal connection...and even if I did... $600 is about the price for me to give up a personal connection.

    If the work estimates hadn't included the EXACT same work across all of the mechanics I might argue that he was going to go the "extra mile" and do more work or something. But...it's the same work, same brand parts, same time frame to fix. All the estimates are absolutely the same except for the extra $600 he wanted to charge.
