    Personally, the only way I ever got mediocre and then kinda goodish at it was just trying and failing over and over and over. Tbh, I'm not naturally good at really anything, just years and years of failure until it sorta stops sucking. I know what did help was connecting actual music to composition. I used to practice solfeging pop music and then trying to identify the key/the music as I heard it and eventually it got easier to work on compositions, because I could just think of it in terms of music I had already been listening to...if that makes sense. :emoji_sweat_smile:

    I used TabIt to learn guitar and write songs. I still can't read/write traditional music, but reading it this way was super easy. I would steal drum tabs from other songs, so half the songs I wrote had Deftones - Around the Fur as the drums lol

    Intervals were my nightmare. I was lucky that my music theory classes all had a sight reading component, or my B would have probably been more like a C. 101/102 wasn't so bad, but when I hit into theory 302, I was so out of my depth:emoji_laughing: @StuffAlleySays has really taken me back in time this morning! I feel 19 again!

    We had this shit, where the teacher would play a note on the piano - and then she'd ask you to sing like a major 3rd above it. Or a perfect fifth. Or whatever. Had to do this before class every day as a stupid warm up of our brains or whatever.

    I'm not a singer. I fucking hated that shit. Didn't help that I was pretty shy and everyone in the class were pretty darn talented.

    So, though I knew what the note was and what it sounded like in my head - I really struggled due to nervousness. I cringe thinking about how much I hated it.
