yes but this is you and that is them. not everyone thinks rationally when all the doom and gloom fear mongering is on tv/radio/print/internet every .5 seconds.
they think, oh damn, i might not be able to get out and get TP/water/milk/etc etc etc, I SHOULD STOCK UP NOW! (not like the scummy asshats @Marta9227 is talking about). but this happens with ANY emergency type situation. you get sheeple that get the herd mentality to stock up EVERYTHING.
its life, its people. accept it and move on while we all here get our stuff drop shipped to our doors

I agree. I could not believe this family's garage. They had soooooooo much toilet paper, it was insane! And the guy who hoarded it to sell it was like "I'm a hustler baby!" No dude, your an A-hole.

The 24/7 news cycle mixed with social media is the worst thing that ever happened to suburban America. They literally freak out about something new every 5 minutes because of some shit they heard, from this to human trafficing to whatever they talk about next.

 

I've been holding on to this gif for so long now, I think this is probably my best chance to use it!

Where else do you expect people to store their sauce?

 

So around here all of the big box stores are out of important stuff but places like Big Lots, Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS all have them. Don't know if that will be the same in all areas but it's worth a look see for anyone who can't find it at Costco or Walmart, etc. (And NOT TO SCAM PEOPLE WITH! FFS, what is wrong with people, and there are actual laws against that and you can go to jail for price gouging during a state of emergency and many places are in a state of emergency now).

Honestly, after reading some stuff posted by intelligent engineers and people in the know whom I trust and who are not fear mongering I decided to stock up a bit this weekend just in case we are asked to limit travel and in case the schools are closed temporarily. I found absolutely everything I needed at Big Lots and my local grocery store. Except hand sanitizer, but I already made that so I'm good. But they still had disinfectant wipes and soaps and detergents and TP. And most importantly, Big Lots had a ton of kitty treats which I stocked up on as I don't want my cats trying to eat me as I sleep if I run out of kitty treats.

 

yup, i dont listen to anything off there.
i have the cdc on a feed, i read that. if the CDC was to all of a sudden post something "omfgbbqtfholyhellwereallgonnadie!"... then id be concerned. but as of right now where the biggest thing they are saying is "WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS YOU CRO-MAGNONS!", i can sit back and continue to work on here, work my real job, and order grocery delivery and not worry about it.
this will get worse if only in the fact the media has hyped this up (and is still hyping it up) to a point of almost scare tactics. i get its a new "super bug" but when you act like its instantly killing everyone thats affected, thats scare tactics. i dont see plague death carts in the streets nor will there be. people need to chillax

 

tbh bad stuff has always happened, it was the lack of constant news and social media that caused the lack of awareness. It’s not a bad thing to be aware of bad things.

 

Awareness and complete fear and freakout of everything is different. I'm talking about people who think because a minority man said hi to them at a grocery store he wanted to human traffic them. I've seen this happen...

By the way, you know I'm super concerned and prepared, people are hoarding TP and water...I'm spending 85 dollars and my sweet Mjolnir 1:1 scale replica for my collection room.

It's all about the right priorities.

 

Honestly, when you suddenly become aware that the world is not a nice and happy bubble where everything goes your way, it's completely normal to freak out a bit while you try to come to terms with your new reality. Also, worrying about the coronavirus is like, completely warranted, especially when you live in a household like mine, with three diabetic aunts over 50 and my dad, who is also over 50 and thus at a higher risk from the disease than myself.

That is reasonable, if you are older or have a weakened immune system I get it, but the vast majority of people you'll get sick and then be fine if you get it.
