    There is for sure a pecking order which sounds like what this is. If it's happening a lot while eating it sounds like she's basically the head hen and wants everyone to know it. I've found that even now ours will peck each other during feeding (or if they find a nice bug or something). I've noticed that -usually- it's pretty harmless mostly warning pecks.

    For sure try the leaf thing though! I put all of my yard stuff in the run and let them compost/break it down. I actually go out with a pitchfork every so often and turn the compost/whatever is in the run and that alone keeps them busy all day. Sometimes I do it several times a day since it's an excuse for me to get up and move around a bit.
