How long it takes to finish kiddo's school depends on how much math there is in independent study time. It took nearly three hours to finish 12 questions yesterday. I hate fourth grade math.

 

I must say I am blessed with the fact math comes easy to my 2nd grader. He is also great at reading but doesn't want to do it.

 

I love math. I just hate the way they are teaching it. Clearly up down math is just fine. Was taught for years. We got into this new age and all of a sudden it's not good enough so let's break up the numbers 6 different ways and put them into blocks of this and that and require a college thesis on how it actually makes any kind of sense.

 

It's ridiculous for real.... I don't care HOW he comes up with the answer as long as it's right!

 

The reading can be a struggle too if they have them read and/or watch too many chapters of their book. They expected kids to sit through a 30 minute read along after 4 hours of school. Ugh.

 

Exactly! He had to break everything down into expanded form, which I get but just would never use and then add everything. He said I don't get it and why can't we just add it. I totally agreed with him. I feel like an idiot with some of this stuff LOL
