Impressive work by one reviewer on the Metaphors task, finishing in 2 minutes ... I spent 5 and couldn't think of any genuinely rare metaphors.

Arguably even the given example is just a derivation based on a metaphor that isn't all that rare, i.e. like saying something is as deep as the sea or as shallow as a puddle ... It's easy to take a common metaphor like that and maybe change the wording and then call it rare and unusual, but it really isn't. To be genuinely unusual, IMO, it needs to be more genuinely original, NOT just directly derived from a common metaphor.

But that's just my excuse for returning the hit.
It looked like a fun task, and it would have been if I had an ounce of creativity in my brain.

My favorite, found it when helping my daughter understand metaphors. From a site that has some from "student papers".

His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling-Free.

Have you ever considered that you're just not particularly suited to these types of tasks? Maybe you would have more success on some other platform where you can just do straight transcription work. I don't know that they pay very well, but judging by your posts you're not exactly raking it in on Mturk. Unless you're trolling. Which is certainly a possibility. I almost hope you are trolling. I hate to think that you really are sabotaging yourself this badly.

If that's the Emmy one, there's a nearly limitless source of inspiration you always use-(Thanks, Forrest Gump) "Life is a...___". There's a kaleidoscope of personal experiences you can draw on. If you get writer's block, just look around the house for an everyday object, and use that as your inspiration.

Life is a flame, sometime burning bright, sometimes burning dimly, but always eventually dying down to ashes.
Life is a chocolate cake; sometimes light, sometimes heavy, sometimes delicious, sometimes not fit to eat
Life is a ticket; some people have better seats than others
Life is toilet paper; you might not appreciate it when it's there, but you'll know when it's gone
    etc.

I would say metaphor because there is an action it is being likened to. But what do I know.

    Pros:
Its a fun game to learn programming. My only complaint was insane amount of side problems ate up a ton of time.
    Cons:
Impossible to go much faster, 30 minute timed game that only counts down when you are on the tab. Brief survey after.

Interesting. I was always taught that "like" "as" "similar to" "than" etc. made it a simile. That makes me wonder if some of those rejections people got on "The Metaphor task" were from using similes.

How I always thought it was:

Alley was a cozy blanket. She made everyone warm, pleasant and comfortable whenever they were near her (Metaphor)
Alley's parental skills are like a warm blanket (Simile)

Regardless, the mental image of my last two brain cells rubbing together like clothes in a dryer is quite hilarious, and is wordplay worthy of Terry Pratchett or Daniel Handler . I love it!:emoji_joy:

Honestly they are so similar in my opinion. A simile is a type of metaphor and I am in no way an expert. I would never do a hit which required me to detect or provide them in a proper way.
