No I think you're confused at what I'm saying. You posted the PRE and that's exactly what it is. Then the other person posted the error that I assumed was the time out (website unavailable)

 

Could be a rumor. I really don't know. I just assumed it was true.

lolol no I think we're both confused with each other. The PRE actually says "you have too many page requests" or something like that. And then the other one (website unavailable) I assumed was the time out from too many page requests. Hopefully you understand me.

Most times when I get this error, I haven't had a single PRE all day... I can manually replicate this error from the main MTurk queue just by doing a few CTRL+right clicks to accept a hit, though. Not that helps or means anything, but I did it for science... Yeah science, that's the ticket.

well just lost that 50 cents to Website Unavailable

 

Amazon has changed something. Like now instead of us receiving PREs, we're getting this website unavailable issue. Some days, I've received a few dozen PREs, but didn't have the issue. So I don't know what's going on. Maybe Amazon reduced the number of servers that they used for MTurk and that created this new issue? Only speculating here. I really should get back to work or at least pretending to work.

 

Yeah I mean it does seem to be tied to high activity. There is just clearly more going on is all I'm trying to say, and who knows how those things interact with each other since we don't even know what those things are

Didn't whoever's over mturk say they didn't like automation a few years back? Or did they change their opinion on that? I haven't seen any shareholders meetings or whatever they were in years.

 

automation is against the rules, but catchers aren't really considered automation

 

Whatever you call a catcher then, I remember them saying they weren't against the rules, however they had some data that said it prevented workers who wanted to work from working on HITs.

 

I miss the days when we didn't need catchers. Yeah, we thought ten cents per minute was making bank, but there was bank to be made. Now it's just like *pokes QBC* catch something pls.

If they wanna get rid of catchers that's fine with me, but right now its required to make any money. If they want to program against catchers, they should release a statement saying as much so we know

 

And as far as I'm aware, the MTurk platform only cares about actual bot automation and stuff like that. If a bunch of people use a catcher and complete the hits, the work gets done, so its not as if nobody can get the work. Surveys are setup so you can only take 1 survey anyway, not like you can horde all the surveys with a catcher. Batches are meant to be worked quickly by whoever can work them generally speaking.. so I don't know why Amazon would really care about catchers when it doesn't affect the money they are making

Reqs seem to be the ones not liking catchers, but it seems like bc they are under this impression that everyone using a catcher is a terrible spammer or something
